Movies News: Chan’s No Fan and The Rock’s The Man

I was a bit disappointed to read the Yahoo headline that said “Jackie Chan No Fan of ‘Rush Hour’ Series. I love the Rush Hour trilogy! He and Chris Tucker could just keep on making them and I would keep on watching. Jackie said that when he released the original Rush Hour in 1998, he was just testing the U.S. market and really didn’t have high hopes for the film. He may not have had high hopes, but the film went on to earn $141 million at the box office.

Jackie said after filming, he felt disappointed and didn’t like the action scenes involved. Jackie Chan – not liking action scenes? Then I went on to read that he felt the action was Americanized and he really didn’t get the American humor involved in the movie. Ah, okay, that I can understand. He said he did Rush Hour 2 because he was offered an “irresistible” amount of money and Rush Hour 3 to satisfy the craving of the Rush Hour fans. Rush Hour 2 grossed $226 million and Rush Hour 3 (still currently in many theatres) has grossed $137 million so far.

It makes me kind of sad to read that Jackie found nothing special about the movies because, as I said, I love them all. Well, at least Jackie’s lack of enthusiasm never shows through in his work.

An actor that does seem enthusiastic about his work is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. But, that may be just because filming seems a lot easier than being tossed around a wrestling ring! His latest film “Game Plan” (which I plan to see later this week, toddler willing), was a winner at the box office.

“Game Plan,” about a football star who finds out he has a daughter he didn’t know about, made $22.7 million this weekend, putting the Disney film in first place over “The Kingdom.” “Game Plan” is the Rock’s biggest opening film since The Scorpion King in 2002.
