Movies Week in Review: December 31st-January 5th

Looking for a great movie? Want to know what I think about the movies I’ve seen lately? You’ve come to the right place.

I really enjoyed “Hairspray.” Tracy Turnblad, a portly teenager with an obsession for dancing, auditions to be on the “Corny Collins” show and ends up bringing an end to segregation on Corny’s stage. Seeing John Travolta wearing a dress and a fat suit was absolutely hysterical and the acting was well done – this movie is well worth your time.

Selena” has always been a favorite of mine. The true story of the dazzling Tejano pop star, this film stars Jennifer Lopez in her finest acting role. Your heart will be touched by this amazing story of the talented actress who was killed before her time by a woman who never knew the meaning of true friendship. You’ll also recognize many of the songs off the soundtrack – they are still played on the radio today.

Come September” stars Rock Hudson as a wealthy businessman who only wants to escape to his Italian villa with his girlfriend for a few days, but all his plans are thrown to the curb when he discovers that his house has been turned into a hotel filled with giggling teenage girls who won’t stay out from underfoot. He trades in the girls only to get nuns in the end. A funny, flirty comedy, you’ll enjoy this one.

Only Love” stars Rob Morrow as a doctor who is asked to cure the woman who broke his heart. Marisa Tomei, always a wonderful actress, plays his wife in this dramatic film. I liked the story, but it flipped back and forth between the present and the past so many times, I was a little dazed and bewildered. I also thought it could have done with a few less bed scenes.

And that’s my opinion on the movies I watched last week. Happy movie watching, and save me some popcorn!
