We have a little bit of everything for you this week in Movie Reviews!
We started out the week with “Raising Helen,” a romantic comedy about a career woman (Kate Hudson) who inherits her sister’s children when she is killed. As Helen learns how to be a parent, she’s helped along the way by her other sister (Joan Cusack) and by the surprisingly good-looking pastor of their new church (John Corbett).
“Get Smart” is a remake of the old classic television show and manages to update the premise while still staying true to its roots. Starring Anne Hathaway as Agent 99 and Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart, this movie is funny and intelligent, all at the same time.
If talking pigs are your thing, you will love “Gordy,” a fun family movie about a little pig who sees his family being taken for sale. He decides to see if he can follow his family and save them from their fate. Along the way he meets new friends and has a whole bunch of adventures, including becoming the spokespig for a food company.
Maybe bears are more up your alley. “Brother Bear 2” is great for all you viewers who enjoyed “Brother Bear,” and shows the power of love.
“The Incredible Hulk” was also reviewed, and is faithful to the old television show as well as the look and feel of comic strips. It’s not appropriate for young children, however.
“Playtime with Pooh” is a fun collection of episodes from the television series that branched off from the original Disney movies, and will keep your little ones entertained for hours.
“The Inn of the Sixth Happiness” is a classic film that stars Ingrid Bergman as an intrepid missionary who leads a group of orphaned children across the mountains of China to safety while avoiding Japanese soldiers and bombing raids.
“The Crippled Lamb” is a touching Christmas film based on the story by well-known Christian author, Max Lucado, and tells us about Joshua, a lamb who was born with a deformity. But he has a special mission to fulfill in his life, regardless.
“The Challenge” stars Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen in their teen years as girls who compete in a television reality show for the chance to win a college scholarship. They haven’t gotten along since their parents’ divorce, but the competition brings them closer together in the end.
We ended the week with “Air Bud World Pup,” the film in which Buddy becomes a father. Now, that’s puppy love for you!
We hope you enjoyed this week in review and that you’ll be able to join us again soon here in Movies.
