Movies Week in Review – March 3rd-8th

I had so much fun watching movies this week! I’d like to share with you the highlights of the films I saw. I’ll be adding some reviews from the previous week, as well.

McLintock!” is a classic John Wayne movie and one of my dad’s favorites. Possessing one of the longest fight scenes in history, this is definitely a man’s movie, although there were elements of it I enjoyed as well, despite Maureen O’Hara’s tendency to overact.

Gypsy” is a Sondheim musical which tells the story of Gypsy Rose Lee, first famous exotic dancer. The show explores her past and the tremendous pressure put on her by her overzealous mother, and the events that led to the choices she made. Definitely a film that will make you think.

It Happened One Night” is one of Clark Gable’s most famous films, and the one for which both he and Claudette Colbert won Academy Awards. A romantic comedy that will have you laughing all the way through, this one is a definite must-see.

To Catch a Thief” caught both Cary Grant and Grace Kelly at the height of their careers and good-lookingness. Grant is a former cat burglar who now must catch another criminal in order to prove his own innocence, and Kelly plays the young lady who helps him do it.

My Girl” is a coming-of-age movie about a girl who is raised in the upper floors of a funeral home and seems to take a back seat to her father’s career as an undertaker. She has unusual ideas about death until she must come face to face with it in her own life.

Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous” reminds us of all the reasons why we enjoyed the first film. Still working for the FBI and yet not able to remain anonymous after saving the Miss United States pageant, Gracie Hart becomes the face of the FBI and learns the hard way that we can’t ever turn our backs on who we really are.

Operation Dumbo Drop” is a hysterical film about what two Army Captains are willing to do in order to keep the loyalty of a small Vietnamese village during the 1960s, including sedating an elephant and taking it on a wild airplane ride.

I hope you enjoy the films featured this week, and that you’ll join us again soon here in Movies.
