Congratulations on your move! We are counting down all of the thing you need to do before the big day. If you missed the earlier article, click here: Moving Checklist. We started out preparing at six weeks before the move, now we are down to the wire. Here is the rest of the list.
2 weeks before the move
Clean out your pantry. Plan out using items from your pantry to make your meals for the next two weeks. Separate out any food items that you won’t be using and consider donating them to a food bank or giving them away to a friend.
Continue packing anything you don’t immediately need, such as books, CDs, movies, seasonal items, the bulk of the toys, photo albums, etc.
Have the car or cars inspected and serviced, if you will be driving long distance.
Fill any prescriptions you might need, so you won’t be caught short in the chaos of moving in to your new home.
1 week before the move
Clean out the refrigerator and defrost the freezer, if that applies.
Confirm all service start dates, such as the day the phone or electricity gets turned on to your new home (and off at your old).
Transfer or close any checking and savings accounts, but make sure you have cash or money orders for last minute expenses.
Collect any items you might have in a safe deposit box.
Put together a necessary suitcase or box for each member of the household. It should include a couple of changes of clothing, personal care items and a special toy for each child.
Put together a box of items that you will need immediately once you move in, such as bathroom tissue and cleaners. Consider a box of quick snacks that you can keep in your car, such as granola bars, bottles of water, apples, cookies, dry cereal, etc.
