Mr. Meow’s Bed Boycott: Finally Over!

Not Mr. Meow…I just liked this picture.

It’s over. It’s done. Mr. Meow is back.

The Great Cat Rehabilitation Project neared completion at the end of last month. Earlier this month there was even further progress when Mr. Meow not only dared to come upstairs again but resumed shower buddy time with me.

There was only one thing left he needed to do to let me know all was copasetic in the Team Pryor household again: snuggle buggle bedtime.

This past Sunday night saw that happen.

Wayne and I were settled in, lights off, and I was watching something on TV. As so happens around that time in our daily rhythm, a cat jumped on the bed to join us. To my surprise it was not Tabby.

“Oh my gosh, it’s Mr. Meow. Hey buddy!” I said, rousing Wayne, who was already pleasantly sailing off to Dreamland.

“Wow, this is huge,” Wayne mumbled before knocking right back off again.

More like massive. It’s been months since Mr. Meow has come to snuggle goodnight with me. He stayed long enough to get a good pat, then he ran off. But I fell asleep that night completely content. My pal was back. He hadn’t forgotten about me after all. Only deserted me until Tabby’s hormones calmed back down.

But he further shocked me the next morning when he jumped in bed and greeted me with good morning snuggle buggle time.

Tabby was not too happy about this development. She watched from the floor, then chased him when he finally jumped down. But instead of scrambling back downstairs like he used to, he ran for “his” room. (Tabby might have laid claim to the guest suite, but Mr. Meow has declared the other spare room his.)

He hasn’t come back since, but he’s been in the bedroom either up on the dresser or on the hope chest every morning since. Tabby balks a bit, but he doesn’t let it phase him –which I think irks her even more. She’s lost her powers to make him cower in terror.

Ah well, it’s just nice to know that “Yes, Virginia, It Really is Possible for Dogs and Cats to Get Along.” (Or in this case, for the cats to get along. Finally!)
