Mr. Meow horsing around on his Minky.
Have you ever heard of a cat having a security blanket? I never had, until Mr. Meow stole mine.
Sort of. He didn’t nab my real security blanket. By the time Mr. Meow came along my beloved Minky was nothing more than a tattered rag. (Which I still have tucked away in a drawer. I just can’t seem to toss the darn thing.)
No, the Minky Mr. Meow laid claim to was a replica my sister had given me for Christmas 1999 as a joke. But the joke was that Mr. Meow thought that was the greatest blanket on earth.
I had tucked it around the base of a Christmas display I’d put up in our apartment to replicate snow, but Mr. Meow thought it made a much better sliding matt. In the middle of the night he’d zoom all across it, whapping whatever toy he could find. (Much to Wayne’s chagrin. Mr. Meow’s ruckus always seemed to rouse him before me.)
Anyway, he seemed to like it so much instead of packing it away in a closet I ended up giving it to him. Until the Tabby ruling the roost incident happened earlier this year, there wasn’t a day that went by that Mr. Meow didn’t enjoy his Minky. Either to curl up on for a nice nap or to horse around on.
Mr. Meow’s Minky is starting to take on characteristics of my real Minky. It’s torn and tattered (but still more whole than the shredded rag mine became) and pilling. But he loves that thing.
And Murphy and Tabby seem to understand it’s his. Tabby might have claimed both Mr. Meow’s beloved red cube and blue and yellow hut for those months she was in charge, but she never dared seize control of his Minky.
I don’t think he would have let her. He made a lot of concessions while she was hormonal from her pregnancy, but luckily she never challenged him in a showdown over who controlled Minky territory. I have a feeling things would have gotten even uglier around here.
However, now that they’re friends and playmates he doesn’t mind if Tabby sometimes uses it too. He lets her without fuss or muss–until he gets frisky and wants to play. Then watch out…Crouching Meowy is unleashed!
