Mr. Superstitious Weds

Here’s what I don’t get… it has been widely reported that San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker is so incredibly superstitious that he insisted that he and his new bride Eva Longoria be married on 7-7-07. Only, as it turns out the couple’s civil ceremony–the one that essentially legally sealed the deal for the two high profile stars–took place on July 6th in a stuffy chamber at Paris City Hall. It’s true; French law does require a civil ceremony even when couples marry in a church, but why not simply complete both on the same day if the date matters so much to you? (And, when do you celebrate your wedding anniversary, on the 6th or the 7th?)

Saturday, July 7th was met with pomp and circumstance. The Desperate Housewives actress and the basketball star held a religious wedding ceremony in front of about 250 guests at a historic church located across from the world famous Louvre museum. According to news reports, the actress wore a “couture Angel Sanchez mermaid gown made of silk wool, with silk gazar metallic embroidery, a scoop back and a 5-foot long train.”

If you want to see what Longoria looked like in her gown you’ll have to pick up a copy of OK! Magazine, which reportedly shelled out a whopping $2 million for exclusive rights to the Parker’s wedding photos. Not that either needs the money, but I suppose as long as you got it you might as well spend it. Seems that’s exactly what Longoria did. According to PEOPLE Magazine, the actress’s bridesmaids received $400 Rafe Swarovski snakeskin clutches to match their dresses while each female wedding guest got a custom shade of L’Oreal Paris lipstick called Pink Romance. In addition, the couple has reportedly been staying at the $11,000-a-night suite at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome for the past 8 days.

It is highly unlikely that I will purchase the OK! Magazine featuring Longoria in her wedding dress (I’m sure the shots will be reprinted on the Internet in the next few days). In the meantime I will settle for gazing at pictures of a dressed up Teri Hatcher and her 9-year-old daughter Emerson waving to the throng of photographers as she entered the church. Hatcher and other A-list guests including Sheryl Crow, Ryan Seacrest, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, Nicolette Sheridan, and Mario Lopez were forced to hide behind a large screen placed to shield them from the press, though some members of the media were able to snap a few pics. Police also erected 10-foot-high wooden panels in front of the church, and the bride and groom kept well out of sight. (I’m sure courtesy of OK! After all, Longoria has never been press shy so if she had not been offered $2 million for exclusive rights to her wedding pics I’m sure she would have made like Pairs Hilton exiting jail.)

If nothing else I feel Longoria’s nuptials should serve as a sign of hope for every lovelorn individual out there. Considering it was less than 3 years ago that she divorced Tyler Christopher (an actor on the popular ABC soap opera “General Hospital”) after two years of marriage when she was a soap star herself. Now she’s on a hit primetime show, re-married and getting 2 mil for letting a magazine take pictures of it all. What a difference a few years can make.
