This past Sunday in Primary, I became really frustrated. It seems that the past two weeks, the kids have been so irreverent. Obviously, this is something that every primary president probably has to deal with, but I was feeling so frustrated by it after primary that I spent a long time speaking to my counselors about what we can do to increase the reverence in primary. Luckily, we have General Conference this next weekend that will definitely yield some inspiration and guidance, and hopefully give the spiritual energy to tackle such a problem!
The kids just seemed to be wiggly, not wanting to listen, sing, and just wanted to talk the entire time. All perfectly normal I suppose. But, how to fix it? Well, we decided that the week after General Conference, we would throw in a lesson on Reverence. I asked my 2nd counselor to make that her sharing time lesson instead of the one that was scheduled. She talked about how she would do some digging around on the internet and see what ideas she could come up with. During sacrament meeting, I was thumbing through the 2011 sharing time outline and saw that the entire month of November was dedicated to reverence. And, during the third week of November, there was the perfect lesson already outlined!!
The thing that was serendipitous about that week being outlined in particular was that was the week that we were going to have our primary program and would not have had sharing time anyway. But, it seemed in our particular primary, that the Lord had a plan for us to use that lesson in October instead! I felt relieved that we were inspired to use that lesson after General Conference, and since there are 5 weeks in October, it fits in quite nicely.
It is just more proof that the Lord is always watching over us in our callings. He knows the struggles and frustrations that we face, and if we strive to be spiritually in tune, then the Lord will bless us with solutions. I feel like He did that with our primary this week, and I am so thankful for His watchful eye.
