An obscure fixture on a New Jersey boardwalk is getting the ultimate honor.
Rock and roll icon Bruce Springsteen says he is planning to pay tribute to Madam Marie Castello, who told fortunes on the Asbury Park Boardwalk in New Jersey. The boardwalk fortuneteller, who was made famous in Springsteen’s 1973 song “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” recently died at the age of 93.
On his personal website the legendary rocker remembered Castello as a boardwalk fixture at the Temple of Knowledge.
“I’d sit across from her on the metal guard rail bordering the beach, and watched as she led the day-trippers into the small back room where she would unlock a few of the mysteries of their future,” Springsteen wrote on his website. “She always told me mine looked pretty good – she was right.”
Springsteen ended his tribute by writing: “Over here on E Street, we will miss her.”
Meanwhile, Australian singer Kylie Minogue is also being honored for her services to music.
The 40-year-old pop star received an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, from Prince Charles during a ceremony today at Buckingham Palace in London. The prince praised Minogue for maintaining a successful career that has spanned more than two decades.
The singer’s first big break came on British television in the mid-1980s soap opera “Neighbors.” She went on to become an international singing sensation and has sold millions of albums. Her hits include “I Should Be So Lucky” and “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi.”
Finally, Donna Summer says she will be spending her summer on the road eating chocolate chip cookies.
Actually, the 59-year-old singer is comparing her summer tour to chocolate chip cookies, saying that she plans to cherish every moment she is on stage much like children relish eating the sweet treat.
Her tour kicks off Saturday in Virginia and Summer says fans that attend her concerts can expect to hear all the music from her new album. In the past, she says she has used just a few new songs, but never all of them.
Her new album, “Crayons,” is Summer’s first full studio album in 17 years.
