Musicians Getting and Giving Aid

GETTING AID

At 26 years old you’d think singer Isaac Hanson would be in the prime of his life. However, the guitarist for the all-brother group Hanson recently came close to losing it all during a concert in Dallas. That’s when he says his shoulder started swelling and his right arm became numb.

“Having had this happen before, I started to be really suspicious of what it was,” Hanson told reporters. “In the middle of the show, I said to someone: ‘We may need to go to the hospital.’ ”

Hanson was able to make it through the show, but not long after he wrapped up on stage Isaac was rushed to the emergency room at a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with severe blood clots in his right arm, jugular vein and lungs. (Hanson had similar clotting a few years ago.)

The new father of a now 6-month-old son underwent surgery and doctors say he is expected to make a full recovery. However, in about six to nine months, he will likely need additional surgery. In addition, Hanson has been prescribed blood-thinning medication.

GIVING AID

Bryan Adams is making headlines for his efforts to promote peace abroad.

The singer is scheduled to headline concerts for peace in the West Bank and Israel next week. (The performances will also be relayed by satellite to London, Ottawa and Washington.) The concerts are being organized by New York-based One Voice, which says it is hoping the music fests will bolster its campaign to collect one million signatures of ordinary Israelis and Palestinians “demanding that their leaders sit down and finalize an agreement on a Palestinian state living at peace with Israel.”

Adams, who had a series of multi-platinum albums during the 1980s and mid-1990s, is one of dozens of Hollywood heavyweights supporting the cause. Other A-list celebs lending their names and faces (via videolink) during the October 18th concert include Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Rhea Perlman, Danny DeVito and Jason Alexander.

Entry to the concerts will be free, but according to the One Voice website, concertgoers must sign the online petition to gain entrance.
