Must Have Items For Fall That You May Already Own

Just in time for Halloween the weather around here is finally beginning to feel fall-like. (Never mind that I pulled out our sweaters and corduroy pants months ago.) As I perused my closet the other night I was pleasantly surprised (make that shocked) to see that I actually own a few items that fashion experts claim are “must-have” pieces for Fall 2007. This, of course, means that if my closet has items fit for a fall fashionista, yours must too.

Take a look at the following list and see if you have the makings of a trendy fall collection in your own home:

PLAID BLAZER

Okay. I don’t own a plaid blazer. But, I do own blazers. I’m not sure that counts, considering fashion experts say plaid is hot this season—-in every style and silhouette. However, to be truly hip experts say try to find a plaid blazer that’s tailored to your body; rather than one that’s big and baggy. (Save those for the Halloween clown costumes.)

THREE QUARTER LENGTH COAT

I bought a 3/4 length coat from the GAP four years ago. I’m so glad I hung on to it now that I know it is hot for fall. (I don’t remember anyone saying it was hot when I bought it, but the price was so unbelievable I couldn’t pass it up.) Fashion experts describe the coat as “retro and lady-like, but in a fun, whimsical way.” I will admit it is versatile. It can be dressed up or paired with a more casual outfit of jeans and heels. If you do purchase a 3/4 length coat experts recommend not wearing it with flats, because of the length; flats could make you look a little stocky in it.

JEWELED ACCESSORIES

If you have jeweled items at home, experts suggest dusting them off. Jeweled accessories are hot for fall-—only be careful not to over do it. For example, if you were wearing a jeweled dress adding a few rings would be appropriate. However, you want to resist pairing the glittery dress with a jeweled bag and big jeweled earrings.

FLAT KNEE HIGH HEEL BOOTS

Style experts say the trendy, easy-to-wear, versatile boots are the single most important item to add to your fall wardrobe this year. You can tuck your jeans into them or wear them under wider-legged jeans. I happen to own a pair and often wear them with a long skirt or dress. Depending on your overall look, the boots can be casual or a little dressier.
