Good news for fans of NBC’s “The Office.” The mega-popular TV comedy is looking to expand.
According to TV Guide, network execs are reportedly planning to introduce new characters to the world of Dunder Mifflin; characters that may end up spinning off from the original series and getting their own show.
TV Guide is reporting that a “major” Hollywood name is being considered for the lead role in the new series. While the brass at the peacock network has not released an official statement, insiders say producers are already prepping an “Office” episode that will introduce the new characters to viewers.
Would you watch a spin-off of “The Office?”
The show already has a cult-like following so I am not at all surprised that NBC execs are trying to milk the hit show for all its worth. When “The Office” aired four, hour-long episodes last month ratings went through the roof. That led NBC’s programming chief to give “Office” writers an open invitation to do as many hour-long shows as they wanted. According to TV Guide, show writers plan to take NBC up on its offer.
The incident was must see TV on a variety of stations worldwide, but now a Denver man wants video of a killer whale attacking him 20 years ago at SeaWorld to stop airing.
Unfortunately, Jonathan Smith won’t get his way. Earlier this week a judge ruled it was unreasonable for Smith to expect that footage of the March 4, 1987, attack by two killer whales in San Diego would never be seen, especially since he once licensed rights of the footage to two television programs.
Smith had sued NBC Universal and a couple of other TV networks for airing the video, but the judge ruled Smith offered no evidence to show the networks violated his copyrights.
Smith’s attorney argued that his client didn’t want his children to see him being attacked by the whales–an incident that left Smith with several broken bones, a damaged spleen and occasional flashbacks to the moment when two whales tried to crush him against the bottom of the tank. An audience member captured the attack with a camcorder and gave Smith the rights to the video.
Smith wanted to be compensated each time the video was aired, but now he’s going to have to settle for being satisfied that he survived the attack.
