My Best Advice for Blogging

Content is still king: No matter how the winds blow or the tides change the most important factor in writing is content. You must put out quality content to gain and keep readers. What is quality content? Content that effects a reader. Does your content encourage, enlighten, or engage? Are you teaching something, informing, or making your readers laugh? Readers are probably not interested in your last trip to the grocery store unless you demonstrate extreme couponing or have some antidote that is worth mentioning a trip to the grocery story. A blog post is a gift to your readers. Don’t make the wish they could return it.

Evergreen Content: Evergreen is content that stays fresh unlike milk a week past the due date. Providing evergreen content keeps your blog fresh and makes it a resource. You will get more consistent traffic throughout your blog. Removing the dates from your blog is another way to keep your content appearing updated.

Clean and Uncluttered Blog Design: Your blog design matters. It should be easy on the eye, clean, with uncluttered sidebars. More professional looking blogs will on average be offered more opportunities. Color is great but keep post backgrounds white with dark type. There is a reason more blogs, sites, and such have white backgrounds and dark type. It is pleasing to the eye. If your blog is not easy to read or navigate then you will it get many return visits.

Get a Facebook Page: Facebook will give you more traffic and exposes your blog to more people then who happen to search out the blogosphere. Make sure you update it regularly. You will want to trade tagging with other bloggers to gain more exposure for all of you.

Link within your blog: When you post and refer to another topic you have written on the link to it. You will keep readers on your blog and help your Goggle rankings.
