As I prepared for my daughter’s first birthday party, I wanted her to be able to celebrate with my favorite kind of cake: Chocolate! She could make the judgment if she liked it as much as I do. I impose all sorts of things on my daughter, like the ballet theme in her bedroom. I was also going to impose a “pretty in pink” theme for her birthday party. I would use a fresh raspberry puree to make a beautiful Italian meringue buttercream frosting for her birthday cupcakes. However the frosting making and cupcake and special mini birthday cake frosting would take place on the morning of her birthday and party.
I turned my attention to her birthday outfit. For all of my son’s birthdays (he has had three so far) I have made him a birthday crown like hat to distinguish him as the birthday boy. Going with the “pretty in pink” theme for my daughter’s birthday, her outfit would most certainly follow suit. Several months ago, I found the most darly light pink onesies that is embellished with a four layer cake and says, “Make a Wish.” To the onesie I added a pair of sparkly pink tights, a pink cardigan (since it is December), and a bright pink tulle skirt that I was going to make myself. I bought a spool of tulle a few days prior and set out cutting the tulle into strips to create a skirt. It was perfect!
After breakfast and after the frosting was made and the cupcakes and little personal cake were decorated, we dressed our daughter in her birthday girl attire. Everything was set and the guests began to arrive. From that moment onward, my daughter was picked up, hugged, and sat down only to be picked up and hugged all over again. She did not seem to mind at all and even obliged almost everyone by gesturing to them to pick her up. To my relief she was perfectly content wearing her poofy tulle skirt too!
