My Favorite Preschool Curriuclum

All About Learning Press: All About Learning Press publishes All About Spelling and All About Reading. All About Reading Pre-Level, is a delightful program I am currently using with my 3 year old. The program works on a multi-sensory approach making it enjoyable for the student. The kit comes with a Zig Zag Zebra puppet that helps your children learn the art of phonics. I love Zig Zag Zebra as much as the kids. I also love the approach that centers on decoding phonics and letter recognition.

Christian Liberty Press: If you prefer a traditional method with a solid schedule and logical timeline then Christian Liberty Press may be the curriculum for you. As the name suggests, it is a Christian curriculum. I honestly do not know of a secular one that compares. Not because there is not one out there but because I simply do not know one as I seek out Christian educational products. The curriculum is well organized and will take you step by step throughout the year. You can customize it as you see fit or follow the calendar already set up.

Abeka Books: I still have not found a curriculum that matches Abeka’s phonics and early reading materials. I would love to hear other viewpoints on this topic. My struggling reader never would have got past “cat” if not for Abeka. The format is logical and heavily based in decoding phonics. The books provide plenty of practice so do as much or as little as needed. Abeka is known for having plenty of practice sheets so do not feel you have to finish each and every one. I do not use Abeka past the second grade and find they shine mostly in the reading program.

Kumon: Kumon is a series of workbooks and not a curriculum. However, if you are seeking a hands on approach that is still in workbook form then you found it with Kumon. The workbooks are highly engaging. All of my children thrived using Kumon and loved it. You can add in Kumon to any program you are currently using.
