How are you? Did you have a good weekend? Was it very frugal?
Thanks for coming along with me for my journey into trying to save more and spend less, especially on the weekends, when there is a lot of temptation for us to spend money in our family. So how did we do this past weekend? See for yourself.
We spent the week really buckling down. In anticipation of having to make a long drive in and out of New York City on Saturday, we saved our gas by not doing any errands or trips during the week, with the exception of grocery shopping. Hey, we have to eat, and I am still in my stockpiling mode. We played at home, in the backyard or in the driveway, and Molly invented a new game using the walkway pavers, which Henry quickly followed.
We had friends over and shared in the cooking, which was so nice. A campfire afterward, with free wood from our yard and some s’mores from ingredients in the pantry didn’t cost us a thing. The fellowship was priceless.
On Saturday, we made that long trip and did it as frugally as we could. We eat before we left and drove straight through. We did wind up skipping lunch, so there was no expense there, and the kids filled up on healthy snacks and some great food once we got to our event.
We spent a lot of money on tolls and gas. and, I made a $10 donation to the local historical society. I resisted the temptation to buy a book at the society. I figure I can get it for at least 50 percent off at Amazon.com or for free at paperbackswap.com, if I find I really “need” it.
We were treated to dinner, so there was no expense there.
On Sunday, we spent the afternoon at our favorite gardens, taking advantage of some great Fall pumpkin shows and kids events. Since we have a membership, there was no expense there. We did, however, treat ourselves to dinner al fresco. The dining options are really gourmet with generous portions. We all ate for under $33 including drinks, and we still had some extras to bring home. The dinner was a wonderful way to relax outside in a beautiful setting, after a hectic day before. It was so worth it.
Did you spend any money this weekend?
