This past year has been full of big changes for me.
The biggest one was my cross-country move. I am no longer one of the primary caretakers for my grandmother — the only person I have to take care of is myself. Well, myself and the dogs. But now that it’s just me, I have to confess that I’ve gotten somewhat lazy when it comes to my own care.
Here are the things I’d like to do in 2008 for better health:
- Walk more. Yes, I walk the dogs at least four times each day, but it’s not the same as walking for exercise. With the dogs, we stop to sniff and piddle. Alone, I could actually get my heart rate up. And I live a mile or less from places like the food store, pharmacy, and post office. I could walk there once in a while!
- Take advantage of the free gym here at the apartment complex. Yes, we have a gym. Cardio machines, free weights, a pool, and a sauna. Have I used any of them? Only the pool when it was extra hot. It’s free, it’s conveniently close, and as far as I know, it’s open 24 hours. I am going to use the gym in 2008!
- Eat more fruits and veggies. I really do like fruits and veggies, but I tend to get into a rut and always eat the same ones. A wider variety in my diet is a good thing.
- Schedule a physical. And a trip to the gynecologist. It’s been a few years since my last PAP smear and official breast exam, so I’m way overdue.
- Keep up with old friends — especially ones who are far away. I’m terrible at keeping up correspondences and returning phone calls. I keep putting it off until I forget! So I’m going to try to be better about staying in touch. Maybe I’ll dedicate one morning each week for answering and sending emails, and one afternoon for making calls.
Here’s hoping you have a happy and healthy 2008 ahead!
