I am still searching for affordable health insurance. All my attempts to find it so far have resulted in being accepted for policies that were too expensive. Today, my husband and I met with an insurance broker. She was incredibly helpful!
At this moment, I have absolutely no health insurance coverage. I am seeking an individual policy. I don’t happen to have the type of job that offers employer sponsored health insurance, (which would be a group policy). I am also seeking health insurance for myself, only. My husband has health insurance coverage through Medicare.
Today, we went to see our insurance broker. Previous to arriving at her office, I spoke with her over the phone. After asking me a few questions about what I wanted my health insurance to cover, she was able to send me some quotes that showed the price of the premiums for three, separate, plans.
The next step was to make an appointment to speak with her in person. I am so glad that I did that! My insurance broker answered all of my questions about the plans I was considering. The plans cover birth control. She went ahead and called someone at the insurance company to specifically ask if the plan covered Implanon, which is the type of birth control I am currently using.
My insurance broker assured me that if I bought a plan now, that it would automatically cover maternity starting in June. I was worried that if I bought a plan before June, and the law requiring coverage of maternity began in June, that the insurance company would refuse to cover maternity for me until the renewal period for the policy happened. I am relieved to know that this is not the case!
After talking things over with my husband, we decided that I would apply for one of the three plans that were presented to me. The quote said that the premiums would cost about $130 a month. This is a price range that I can afford.
The absolute best part about getting help from an insurance broker was that she was right there, and able to assist me, with the multitude of questions that are asked when a person fills out a health insurance application online. That made applying for the insurance so much easier than when I have tried doing that on my own.
Next, I have to wait and see what the insurance company decides to do. The insurer sent me an automated email that said that they received my application, and that it was being sent to their underwriters. I think that the insurer will contact my insurance broker when they make a decision about whether or not to accept my application. She will then contact me, and we can talk about any questions I have about the results.
If things go well, then my husband and I are considering going back to the insurance broker later, to see if we can find dental insurance. She already had some good ideas about how that could work for us.
