I was feeling a little guilty writing about craft ideas but not really spending a lot of time working on crafts with my own children. I decided to do something about it, and slipped out to do a little shopping.
About a week or so ago, I brought home some stuff for us to work on. We made a big advent calendar which was not only fun and cool for the kids, but also helps keep me on track. Every time I walk past it hanging on the kitchen wall, I can see exactly how close Christmas is. It’s getting close fast!
So, as I was out looking for stuff that I thought my girls would like, I decided to stop at the dollar store. They have cute stuff sometimes, so I thought I might find some pretty Christmas picks or something. You know – those things that you stick into flower arrangements and plants? You can also cut off the “stick” part and attach them to gifts or incorporate them into decorations.
I found something even better! There was a package of mini Christmas ornaments for a mini tree and they looked just like shiny, individual Christmas lights. All you had to do was get some ornament hangers and hang them up. Instead of using them as ornaments, I thought they would make adorable Christmas jewelry. I bought a package of the little ornaments then went to another store and found some pretty ribbon and cord.
My girls made necklaces, chokers, and bracelets. I thought I had some earring kits, but I guess we used them all, so I’m going to pick up some more. My daughters want to make matching earring and necklace sets for their friends for Christmas.
The jewelry turned out so cute that I decided I’d even like to have a necklace. I picked a bright red light and red satin ribbon for mine. I might even make a pair of earrings for myself too.
