Friday my husband had the day off for the holiday, so we took a short trip over to Lancaster County, and among other things, visited the Rockvale Outlets. These outlets have some great family-friendly brand names, such as Disney, Carter and Stride-Rite, as well as fashion-friendly stores for the adults. We only had time to hit a few of the stores, but I learned a couple of new things about outlet shopping for this trip. Here is my best new tip.
Think outside the store
The first store I wanted to visit was the VF outlet. Healthtex, Vanity Fair and Levis are all part of this one store. I picked up a couple of pairs of jeans for my son (adjustable waste and reinforced knee) for a real bargain. I was disappointed, however that there weren’t any dresses for my daughter. My daughter, being a little girl, loves dresses. As the mom of a little girl, I love longer dresses that allow her to run around without revealing her princess underwear to the world. VF is one of the few places I have been able to find such dresses.
I found out that VF has another store, tucked within the outlets. This was a clearance store! Naturally, I had to check it out. There in the store where the summer dresses I needed, all marked way down even below the normal outlet price. In the retail world, July is actually Fall. So just as thrift stores sometimes have their own thrift stores, I learned that outlet stores sometimes have their own outlet stores.
So I started asking around. The fact was that quite a few of the outlet stores had their own clearance stores within the outlet complex. So my advice to you is to look for these clearance stores and visit them first in order to get the very best deals.
