My Preschooler’s Homeschool Agenda

My fourth time homeschooling preschool began this month. It is one of my favorite ages to teach since little hands are so curious about everything around them. I love the arts and crafts, building blocks and the cute workbooks geared toward preschoolers. I have a vast array of preschool activities, books, pre-reader books, and craft supplies. Not only is this the fourth year I will teach preschool but my last. So, I found myself wanting to give all my favorites on last look while incorporating some fun new items on the market. Here is what my preschooler will be doing this year.

Language/Reading

All About Reading: Fairly new curriculum on the market and wonderful.

Books: I use living storybooks to teach a variety of subjects. Books like Winnie the Pooh, Lyle Lyle Crocodile, and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie make wonderful additions to your preschool bookshelf. The more you read and open up that world the more your little curious learner will develop language.

Math

Inchimals: Can be found at Timberdoodle. The best part is you will use this through Kindergarten.

Christian Liberty Press: I use workbooks for added reinforcement of number recognition and to allow coloring.

Science

Nature study is the focus so we use plenty of totes to collect leaves and journals for drawing.

Cooking is another area my preschooler helps out which serves as science.

Helping out with older sister’s experiments. She will not understand it fully but I try to teach her in smaller bites.

Considering God’s Creation, which is a great curriculum for multi-ages.

Art

We do arts and crafts associated with the books we are reading or a holiday.

Art study: simple discussions on what she sees in a famous painting.

As you can see nothing is rigid. I will add in other things like Kumon Workbooks, reader books, more arts and crafts and music as the year goes on. However, the focus on the preschool years is developing a curiosity about the world. Children learn best naturally so go with the flow.
