This is my second week blogging here for Families.com. I am having so much fun writing the blogs and connecting with everyone. I love getting comments. Not only does it makes me thrilled to see that you are reading my blogs, but I am learning so much through those comments. You have so many great ideas!
If you are like me, you are always looking for a good deal. That is why I was so excited to be able to post in the deals blog this week. Getting good deals and living frugally go hand-in-hand, don’t they?
Well, in case you missed any of my blogs, here is my second week in review:
Frugal Decorating with Pine Cones
As you may know from some of my other blogs, our family is in the middle of a move. We found a nice little house in a more rural area. The house comes with two acres of mostly woods. We just can’t wait to move in. Well, yesterday, we drove out to the house to meet with our agent.
Frugal Gift Basket: Romance at Home
I love making and giving (and receiving) homemade gift baskets. They are fun and frugal. Gift baskets can be individually customized to the recipient, which makes for a very thoughtful gift. Alternatively, gift baskets can be created to make money.
One of my very favorite deals is getting free magazines. Ever since I was little and I had my very first magazine subscription (I think it was Dynomite), I’ve looked forward to getting a glossy new magazine in the mail. You would be surprised at how many magazines out there can be had for free.
Save Money on Home Heating: Install a Dryer Diverter
Here is a little known secret for saving money on home heating. It is one of the absolutely best things we did last year, and it saved us a lot. Although our basement is not finished, we still use it as a family room.
Old towels are one of those things that I just never want to part with. I mean, what is more useful than a towel, right? However, if your towels are like some of mine, starting to fray at the ends, you might want to make them useful in a different way.
If you want to get the absolutely best gas prices in you area, there are a few tools you can use, thanks to modern technology. These tools will allow you to check daily gas prices for gas stations local to you. You can then go to the cheapest gas station for your fill up.
Squeezing Money from the Newspaper
I love the Sunday newspaper for its promise of thick colorful inserts of grocery coupons. I look forward to cutting the coupons and comparing grocery prices with the store sales flyers.
What? What did that title say? How can spending money be frugal? No, this is not a weak attempt at rationalization. My husband proudly tells everyone that I can pinch pennies out of rocks.
Selling Our House Is Not Frugal! (1)
Ah the adventures of selling our house. From last minute (literally) showings to offers that come with shady financing, it has been an interesting ride.
Selling Our House Is Not Frugal! (2)
In my earlier blog, Selling Our House Is Not Frugal! (1), I shared some of the not so frugal adventures of keeping our house absolutely perfect for showings to potential buyers. In this buyers market, it is especially important to make sure our house shows at its best.
Frugal Gift Basket: Mystery in the Evening
I can’t say enough about homemade gift baskets. They are a frugal way to give something really special. In an earlier blog, Frugal Gift Basket: Romance at Home, I mentioned a great pricing deal I got on wooden woven baskets.
The holidays don’t have to be all about spending money on gifts and decorations.
A Fall Down the Stairs And Healthcare Savings
Have you been putting off that trip to the doctor because you’ve been so busy with the holidays? I found out this week that if you can get those appointments in before the turning of the new year, you can save big money. There is no doubt health care costs are rising.
Do Those Book Reward Programs Really Pay?
I love books, but being frugal, I usually borrow my books from the library or a friend, or buy them at yard sales, thrift stores and library sales. But when a famous chain book store offered a reward program for free, I got excited and decided to sign up.
One Simple Way to Lower Your Heating Cost
According to the Energy Information Administration, we can expect a large increase in our home heating costs this year, anywhere from 31 percent to 46 percent, depending on where you live and what type of fuel you use. That is pretty scary, considering we are already paying so much in fuel.
Have a family sweet tooth? Stock up on after Christmas clearance candy and save big throughout the year. One of my favorite after Christmas hunts is for all of that yummy clearance candy. I have gotten some great deals. Right after the holidays, I head over to the grocery store.
Frugal Gift Basket: Romance for The Single Woman
Do you have a friend who loves romance? Whether she likes a genteel historical novel or a real bodice ripper, this gift idea is a great one to try. It is an easy and last minute gift that is sure to make her smile.
