My sister and I have always been really close. She is a mere eighteen months younger than me. We have done many things together as children, through high school, and through college. Both of were married right after our graduation from college and both of our husbands pursued graduate degrees that took us to different states putting us more than one thousand miles apart for the first time in our lives. Life continued as it does but we were only able to see each other once or twice a year. During our time apart, after I had my first baby, my sister and I were able to share being pregnant (her with her first and me with my second) together (kind of). Both my sister and I had daughters who were born three months apart respectively. Now we had even more in common but the distance made it impossible for us to see each more than a couple times a year. Things started to change a year ago (while we were both pregnant) when my family (husband, son, and my pregnant self) moved back to our hometown. A few months later my sister came to visit at thirty four weeks pregnant for her baby shower (that I threw her). Then a few months after that when her newborn daughter was just four weeks old, my son and I went out to visit for the baptism (my husband and I are the godparents). Then a few months after that, they came back (my sister and her husband and her four and half month daughter) for my daughter’s baptism (they are the godparents). Then a few months later, five actually, my sister and her husband and their daughter moved back too! Now we can finally start sharing our lives again, my family of four with her family of three!
