The closets in your home can hide many interesting things. This week, I am taking the time to go through all of the closets in our home to de-clutter and organize these spaces. And does anyone need a nice suede skirt or a collection of scrunchies from the 80s?
The first closet I attacked on my self-appointed mission was own own master closet. This closet is not only the keep of the clothes that belong to my husband and the clothes that belong to myself, but it is also the keeper of a number of other things, such as the laundry basket that serves as a dirty clothes hamper, belts and shoes, extra sheets, hair items, the single sock bag, and a box or two of decorative items for the room that won’t be unpacked until the room is painted and redone. I also found loose legos and small toys, several plastic bags to be used in the master bath wastebasket and the bedroom’s window air conditioner. That may sound like a lot of stuff for one closet, but you have to understand that my husband and I don’t have too many clothes.
Still, even a limited number of clothes can be weeded, and that is just what I did first. Going through my side of the hanging clothes, I became very honest with myself. I have weeded out clothing before, but this time I was truly ruthless and on a tear.
Items that I originally love, but which also haven’t seen the light of day, were put into a large donation bag. This included a beautiful tan suede shirt that still fit but had a slit that after three kids just doesn’t seem appropriate for me. Can you imagine running around the playground after a toddler in that? Items that I have been wearing but should not wear (such as the sweater that shrunk so the arms are short, or the skirt that was so old that it was threadbare in a spot) went in the donation bag, the trash or the rag bag, depending on which destination was most appropriate.
Don’t miss part 2, coming up later today!
