I always find it interesting to see what children want for Christmas. It says so much about their personality. I also have a tendency to love whatever my children love or at least grow a fondness. I am not particularly in love with football cards but since my son loves them so much I have grown a bit of a fondness for them each time I see some in the store. Hot Wheels were another item I learned to love since all my kids loved Hot Wheels. I used Hot Wheels as stocking stuffers for all my kids at one time or another.
The other day I took my 3 year old and 6 year old to Toys R US to make their Christmas list. Actually, we were there to kill some time while my teenager had volleyball practice. I figured it was as good a time as any to get a Christmas shopping list together. My 6 year old loved picking out toys as she fluttered through the store asking for every third item. My 3 year old was more discerning. She did not want every item in the store but a few select items caught her attention.
As I made out the list I put under my 6 year old, “everything”. Under my three year old I put by her request a baby doll, a stroller for her baby doll, a bed for her baby doll, bottles for her baby doll, a dinosaur, Hot Wheels, a truck, a remote controlled 4 wheeler, Buzz Lightyear, toy tools, toy kitchen, and a ball. Talk about a healthy mix of traditionally boy and traditionally girl toys. After quite some time at the store she grew tired. Upon arriving home she was asked what she found she wanted. Her replay was “trucks and baby dolls”. This Christmas will be easy! She will also be just as popular with her brother as her sister during playtime.
