Too often, it seems like the general attitude towards life is the “it is my way or the highway” approach. In this approach, authority is resisted and the only thing that matters is an individual’s own opinion. An individual with this attitude will determine what things are right and wrong for himself, regardless of outside sources. However, I think that this is a very dangerous pattern of life to develop.
Christians in the world today must fight an attitude in which they rely only on themselves to determine what is right and wrong. Christianity is not about doing things our way, but rather God’s way. God, our Heavenly Creator, gave the world guidelines to follow. We should not only follow God’s Word, but also want to follow God’s Word because we are His creation. Christianity is not about deciding what is right and wrong on our own, but rather looking to the Bible for Divine instruction.
God blessed the world with His Word, so that we might know how to obey Him. Below I have listed some verses to consider:
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.”
(2 Peter 1:3-4)
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
(2 Timothy 2:15)
“Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.”
(Psalm 119:1-4)
“With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
(Psalms 119:10-11)
