MyHeritage Releases SuperSearch

Family Tree MyHeritage is a genealogy website that genealogists can join for free. However, if you purchase a subscription it will give you access to more of what the website can offer. Recently, MyHeritage added something brand new. It is called SuperSearch.

MyHeritage is a genealogy website that has been around since 2005. It is run by a company that is based in Israel, and it has an international members from all around the world. You can use MyHeritage to create your family tree, and to do some genealogy research. There are ways to share your research with other members of family who also have a MyHeritage account.

The one and only problem I have with this website is that some portions of it are not Mac compatible. This is a common issue with genealogy software or websites, for some reason. If you use a PC, then you shouldn’t have any difficulties trying to use the MyHeritage website.

Recently, MyHeritage released something brand new. It is called SuperSearch. This new feature is described as a “powerful search engine for historical records”. It lets you search through more than 4 billion records, including birth, marriage, and death records, military and immigration records, and vital records from 16 different countries. It also features 500 million exclusive family tree records, and the world’s largest newspaper collection.

The SuperSearch will let you search for synonyms and initials of first names. I got an email from MyHeritage that explains it this way: “For example, if you search for William, we’ll also catch Bill, Vilhelm, Guillaume, Guglielmo, and other synonyms and international variations.”

You can run a global search, or narrow it down to just one collection. The SuperSearch is able to figure out the gender of the person that you are trying to find. The SuperSearch connects with the Record Matching Technology, which will be released in the next few weeks.

In order to use the SuperSearch, or the upcoming, yet to be unveiled, Record Matching Technology, you have to have a subscription to MyHeritage. Yes, this means a paid subscription, and not the one that is free.

If you live in the United States, they have a deal is valid through the end if July 4, 2012. This deal is valid for the USA only. The Fourth of July Special gives you a 32% discount on subscription upgrades and extensions. There is also another deal that gives you a 36% introduction discount on all data subscriptions. You can get an Annual data subscription for $6.35 a month, (billed annually).
