NASCAR Fans: Free Trackpass Until 02/17/07

Our little town is embroiled in a NASCAR debate. The neighboring county (more cosmopolitan than our rural area) wants to put a NASCAR track right on the border, meaning a larger tax base for them and a lot of traffic and law enforcement problems for us. The arguing has been going on for years, but I think those of us who would like to keep our police force at two officers on duty at a time and two stoplights in the whole area are slowly losing the battle. We’re losing because NASCAR is just too popular.

Depending upon whom you ask, it’s the most widely watched sport in America. NASCAR claims to have 75 million fans. Wow. Half that many watched the recently televised Daytona 500. Even if it’s only 40 million, that’s still substantial. If you’re counted among them, there’s a great deal going on right now. Budweiser is sponsoring free Trackpass access now through February 17th.

Trackpass lets you listen and/or watch your favorite driver online. Trackpass Scanner lets you listen to forty drivers on different channels. Wondering what’s going on in your driver’s car, or his competitor’s pit? Listen in with the Scanner. If you want more than audio, you can launch PitCommand, a java based real-time record of the race, complete with stats, the aforementioned Scanner, and a moment-by-moment view of your driver’s progress. For the true die-hard, there is RaceView, images from one of three cameras on your driver’s car (also includes everything in the PitCommand package).

Avail yourself of the free week. After the 17th, the packages start at $6.67/mo. Trackpass doesn’t require high-speed service, in case you’re still on dial up. I think the RaceView might be interesting. Anyone know which of these guys is most likely to crash? Just kidding.
