National Adoption Day 2009

National Adoption Day

Jessie joined our family on September 11, 2008. She was placed in our home for adoption. It wasn’t until June 2, 2009, that we learned that what was promised was going to happen. We were going to be able to adopt our third foster placement. That was the happiest day since we graced our eyes upon her.

The next thing we had to think about is what to do next. I had the names of two attorneys whom I spoke with when there were challenges to Jessie staying with us. I liked them both and each had a different take on what to do about the challenges.

We were presented with another option when we started moving forward: National Adoption Day. We’d had heard of National Adoption Day prior, but hadn’t paid attention because it didn’t affect us. When we started looking at it, we knew was exactly how we wanted to welcome her into permanent daughter status. The two attorneys I had contacted referred us to another who handled more Adoption Day adoptions.

National Adoption Day 2009 was on Saturday, November 21. What a great day! National Adoption Day was more magnificent than I had imagined. I had seen something similar to National Adoption Day on the TV show Judging Amy, but nothing prepared me for the day. There were so many volunteers wearing National Adoption Day T-shirts and helping to keep everything moving. There was a clown making balloon animals and festive balloons throughout. Many had donated their baking skills in delicious cookies. There was a photographer to commemorate the event and give each family a keepsake CD. Outside there was a car seat check station.

National Adoption Day 2010 is scheduled for Saturday, November 20. It would be wonderful to be able to adopt on that day again.
