It seems there is a day for everything! Today is a two-fer and both will help you get your house cleaned. It is America Recycles Day and National Clean out your Refrigerator Day. Talk about double duty!
Just in time to fill the fridge with Thanksgiving goodies. Go and ruthlessly toss those random containers in your fridge. Since we are also recycling today, see if you can recycle any of those leftovers into a meal for tonight. Kill two birds with one stone, the fridge gets clean and dinner is a breeze.
Don’t go crazy cleaning the fridge since next week it will be a mess again, just remember, there will be a lot of leftovers and now is the time to make room for them. Don’t forget the freezer, throw out all freezer burned packages, you are never going to use them anyway.
Once the fridge is done it’s time to recycle. This is a great time of year to donate the things your family doesn’t need. Grab a trash bag and walk through every room, I bet it will fill up faster than you think. Look for outgrown winter items that could bless other children, coats, hats, gloves and scarves are always appreciated by churches and homeless shelters. Do you have coats in the closet that you never wear? Toss those in the bag too.
Shoes, purses, socks, just about anything you can think of, someone without would be happy to receive. Ask the kids to go through their toys and give things they don’t play with to other children. Maybe you can recycle in your own family. I always welcomed my sisters kids hand me down clothes and toys. My daughter loved wearing things that had belonged to her older cousins.
Do you recycle your trash? If you don’t have curbside recycling maybe today is the day to set up a recycling system in your home to make it easy for your family to recycle. Do some research online and find recycling centers close to you. Once you build this habit into your family’s daily life it will become second nature. We need to do our part to help the planet and each other, today is a perfect day to start.
