Guess what the first week of August is? It is “National Simplify Your Life Week.” How many of us could use some of that?
Although this could apply to a variety of areas in our lives, I can’t help but think of how we could simplify things in our home. Everything from the clutter we collect to the chores that overwhelm us.
I think sometimes we make things in life, including the keeping of our home, to be so much more complicated than is necessary. We can’t find things yet we do nothing about the fact that our closets are overflowing and the cabinets are in disarray.
We can’t figure out why there is nothing to eat in the house. But we don’t take the time to plan our meals.
I know that decluttering, cleaning and organizing takes work. That may not be your idea of simplifying things. But it’s the only way to get to a point where your home can become simplified.
We all have our own areas that we struggle with in our home. In fact, you may feel like you have several. By focusing on one thing at a time, starting with the most important, you can work your way to a simplified life.
What is most important? Well, think about what people in the family most complain about. Or what prevents you from being on time, keeping something clean or finding what you need?
This is where you start. You identify your problem, find a solution and then implement it. It is amazing how much simpler life can become when you take action steps.
So many areas in our home where we lack, it is because we have chosen that way. Or we haven’t taught others in the home how to deal with it.
If you feel that family members are the ones standing in the way of a simplified life, talk about it. Share what that is and how it can be changed. Don’t just sit around and hope others read your mind.
What steps will you take this week to simplify your life?
