National Treasure 2 – Book of Secrets

Soon after “National Treasure” starring Nicolas Cage hit its popularity in 2004 came the creation of “National Treasure 2 – Book of Secrets” also starring Cage.

The plot of this sequel revolves around the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and the struggle of two men to uphold their family’s name.

It is brought to Ben Gate’s (Cage) attention that a missing page of Booth’s diary could connect Gate’s great-great-grandfather to Lincoln’s death.

Gates sets out to prove this theory wrong.

The only way to clear his family’s name is to once again go on a treasure hunt, this time for a city of gold. The hunt leads Gates to Paris, to the White House, to Mt. Rushmore, to the Queen of England, and to kidnapping the President of the United States.

His hunting buddy Riley, his mom, and his dad join in the hunt. Eventually his ex live-in girlfriend decides to help.

Creating many obstacles for the hunters is Mitch Wilkinson, who wants his family to get the glory for finding the lost city of gold. In the beginning Mitch is no good for the team. However, by the end he changes his mind, helps out, and loses his life in the hunt.

All ends well in the end for the treasure hunting crew. The lost city is found. The family name is cleared. Mitch gets the recognition he had longed for and Ben and Abigail reunite as a couple. Even Riley comes out on top.

While this movie does have some historical value, not all of the evens are claimed to be facts. The fictional story is based around historical knowledge.

The best part of this PG Disney produced movie is that it is entertaining and action filled enough to keep the adults interested. However it is also free enough of language and scenes that the children can be in the same room!
