Ok, today while looking for a timely topic to write about I decided that I have no business writing a housekeeping blog because apparently, I’m a slacker. I like a clean house as much as the next girl, nothing is as wonderful as waking up to a clean house every day and having that same house organized so that most of the cleaning seems to do itself. But today I found a book that makes me feel like I could possibly be living in a shack with a dirt floor when it comes to cleanliness and organization.
This book is called “National Trust Manual of Housekeeping.” Pretty fancy name for a book that involves information on cleaning toilets and vacuuming. Then I discovered it’s over 900 pages long. If I needed a 900 page book to keep my house clean I’m pretty sure I would give up about three pages in, just the thought of that much cleaning would make me tired.
Some of the wonderful nuggets include how to properly align your doormat and the correct method of moving a dining room chair. The book says it contains practical expertise and the latest scientific research. Scientists are researching how best to make my garbage disposal smell better? Granted this book was written for the care and preservation of historic homes but still, 900 pages?
Because I am lazy but do like a clean house, if I wrote a housekeeping book it would be one page long – hire someone to do it. That is really the best housekeeping tip although not really affordable for most of us so in the meantime we better study up on aligning door mats and how much sheet should be folded over the blanket when you make the bed. You never know when the scientists are going to show up.
