National Wildlife Day: How You Can Help

Last month I wrote about National Dog Day sponsored by the Animal Miracle Foundation. Today is another AMF sponsored day, National Wildlife Day.

What It’s About

Initially the woman who created these days, Colleen Paige, was going to have this one fall on June 6th. However, she changed it to September 4th to honor “the last day that Steve Irwin graced this planet.”

The goal is to raise awareness of the non-domestic creatures those of us who are urban dwellers may forget about. The ones who are endangered or otherwise threatened, but who can be saved with a little help from us. (In the form of our support to those who make it their mission to protect wildlife, that is.)

How You Can Help

• Visit a zoo

• Donate to a zoo or wildlife sanctuary

Adopt a wild animal

For the Time-Challenged

Maybe your schedule won’t allow for you to spend family time at the zoo today. How about taking a few moments to virtually visit a zoo –via a Families.com blog about one?

Making Compromises

If you took the time to read this article or click any of the above, thank you. It’s a step. You’re more aware. We humans are not the only ones living on this planet. We have to learn to share with our fellow creatures. Sometimes we encroach too far on their domain and render it uninhabitable for them. We can’t ignore that. We have to learn to compromise so we don’t further compromise them –because it will only ultimately compromise us.
