Quick! Company is coming over and your home smells like a mixture of last night’s fajitas and the stinky garbage can. There are no commercial air fresheners on hand, and you heard those things can be bad for your health anyway. What can you do? Try one of the following quick and natural air fresheners for your home.
White vinegar works wonders when it comes to cooking odors. Keep a small bowl of vinegar near the stove while you are cooking. This hint comes straight from Heloise.
Carpets and rugs tend to hold on to order. Do you remember those carpet deodorizers that you used to sprinkle on the carpets before vacuuming? Using the same principal, just sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet or rug and allow it to sit for 30 minutes. Then vacuum it all up for a fresh, order free room.
The other way to freshen up a room while vacuuming is to place some scent in the vacuum itself. if your machine uses a bag, simply place a few drops of a natural oil or extract such as peppermint or vanilla on a cotton ball and place the ball into the vacuum bag.
If the garbage can is stinky, first take out the bag, even if it isn’t full. You can then deodorize the can by washing it out. To conquer orders before they start, keep either a dryer sheet or some baking powder at the bottom of the can under the bag. Either will absorb odors.
If your microwave is stinky, you can use this trick to both clean and deodorize it at the same time. Fill a microwave safe bowl with at least 1-1/2 cups of water and some chopped lemons and whole cloves. Microwave it for a minute or two until the water is steaming hot. Then let it sit for 15-20 minutes. When the water cools, remove it and wipe down the inside of the microwave.
