Do you live on energy drinks? Do you feel you have to have a Red Bull or Monster to make it through some days? Many Americans are so busy that they consume energy drinks just to keep up. But, if you drink energy drinks, do you really know what you are putting into your body?
Consumer Reports recently conducted a study and found that some energy drink labels aren’t truthful. Some were found to have higher levels of caffeine than stated. And the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently did an investigation into five deaths believed to be somehow related to energy drinks. I’ll write about that in my Health blog.
In addition, energy drinks combine caffeine with vitamins, sugar, sweeteners, and herbal extracts and there hasn’t been much research on this type of combination, so it may not be good to drink energy drinks.
But, are there any natural energy drinks? You know there are!
One example is Kombucha. It’s a fermented tea that doesn’t contain much caffeine. But, it does contain B vitamins that helps give you natural energy. And even better news is you can find it already bottled in natural food stores or you can brew it yourself.
If you are more of an energy shot person, Pure Prana is the drink for you. It contains organic holy basil which helps oxygenate your body. Pure Prana founder Daniel Sullivan says Pure Prana helps cleanse your liver and kidneys while moving your blood.
I am not a fan of energy drinks, but I do need energy and I love beets, so I am thinking maybe I should try Zu-kay Live Foods energy drink with beet kvass. This fermented vegetable drink has been very popular in Eastern Europe for centuries and is believed to not only purify your blood, but also provide beneficial bacteria and help digestion. You can find it at Wegmans, Whole Foods, and other natural food stores.
