Can you come up with a creative solution to help me save my vacuum?
Most of our family life, we have been living with hard floors in our homes. We usually prefer hardwood, but will take tile for bathrooms and for the kitchen. When we moved into our current home, there was a dingy carpet covering the front hallway and the living room, and another covering the bathroom floor.
We quickly pulled up the living room carpet and finally got rid of the one in the bathroom as well. However, since the time that we have moved in, my husband convinced me that we should get carpet in our family room. It is now the only room in the house with carpet.
The previous owners of our home left behind an ancient but sturdy and powerful upright Kenmore vacuum that has been perfect for keeping the family room carpet tidy. Unfortunately, it is so old that we can no longer find the vacuum bags for it. Our solution has been to open the existing bag, empty it and tape it up. Unfortunately, after two years of doing this, the bag finally collapsed, so our little work around trick won’t work any longer.
We do have another vacuum, a canister one that is made for hard floors. It doesn’t do well on carpet, even with the switch to carpet mode. It just sort of pushed the dust around on the carpet. I’m in panic mode, since i like to vacuum the carpet three times a week.
I would hate to have to go out and purchase a brand new vacuum to use just for one room, whether new or used. This is especially true since the vacuum is in good working order. Can anyone offer a frugal solution to my vacuum dilemma?
