Every parent needs a little extra support, advice, or understanding from time to time. Parents who have children who have special needs may need that kind of help a little more often. There is a website called S-O-S that is an online special needs information guide that can be used by parents. Stage One of their program is being offered for free right now.
There are many benefits to going online in order to get support for something. Online support is available whenever you need it, no matter what time of day or night it happens to be. You can access it in your spare moments, without needing to make an appointment first. Often, the information you find is free. You won’t need to arrange for a babysitter, or even to change out of your pajamas, in order to find the support you are seeking.
The S-O-S Research website was created by Danette Schott, who is a professional researcher who is based in San Jose, California. She was trying to find ways to help her child, whom she adopted from Russia, and felt that she was drowning in the information that she found online that talked about special needs. She felt overwhelmed, and noticed that nothing seemed to be organized in a way that could guide a parent through the process of figuring out what to do.
This inspired her to create the S-O-S Research website in 2010. Parents can find information there about ADHD, anxiety, autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, social skills deficits, mental illness and a lot more. The information has been carefully selected, and is organized in a way that makes it easier for parents to navigate through.
There are two main parts to the website. S-O-S Step-by-Step is a guide that directs parents through hundreds of resources on specific special needs topics. There second part is called “Help! S-O-S for Parents”. This is a blog. It has product reviews, interviews with experts, tips to help parents deal with a specific issue, and some product giveaways.
Each month, the blog does something called “Best of the Best”. This is a special collection of the best ideas and experiences from more than 30 bloggers. This month, they are honoring Autism Awareness Month, and presenting more than 50 reviews of books, DVDs, and something called b-Calm. They also are giving away more than $1,100 worth of those products. If you are a parent who is struggling, you may want to check out the S-O-S website. It might be able to give you the help that you are looking for.
