Negative Calorie Foods

To be clear, every single thing you put in your mouth has calories. Even gum, something you don’t even swallow, has calories. There is no such thing as a food that has negative calories. However, there are foods that require more energy to chew and digest than they actually contain.

In theory, if you existed on a diet solely of these foods, you would lose weight. I obviously don’t suggest that. However, combining portions of these foods into your diet on a regular basis along with good proteins and healthy grains can only help your weight loss efforts.

So what exactly are these weight loss foods? Here is a list of foods that actually cause you to burn calories simply by eating them:

apples

apricot

asparagus

aubergine

beets

blackberry

broccoli

cabbage

carrots

cauliflower

celery

clementines

cranberries

cucumber

dandelion

endive

fennel

garlic

gourd

grapefruit

green beans

guava

honeydew melon

hot chili peppers

leek

lemon

lettuce

mandarin orange

melon canteloupe

onion

papaya

peaches

peppers

plums

radish

raspberry

rhubarb

spinach

strawberry

tangerine

tomato

turnip

watermelon

zucchini

How Should I Incorporate These Into My Diet?

A healthy diet, and one that will help you lose weight should incorporate at least 5 different colors of fruits and vegetables every day. You also need carbohydrates. . .but make sure you get your carbs from either green leafy vegetables and/or whole grains. Carbs in a candy bar might taste good–but they’re not going to do anything for your waist line.

If you make sure that at least a few of your “5 colors a day” are from the negative calorie food group, you are likely to see results. That’s as long as you don’t over do it on the protein and carbohydrate end of things. And as always–watch your portions. Skinless, boneless chicken is healthy enough but eating 12 ounces of it at one sitting is not likely to do your back side any favors.
