New Genealogy Classes from Family Tree University

Mac laptop Family Tree Magazine has something that they call Family Tree University. It isn’t actually a college, but, it is a resource for genealogists who want to take some genealogy related classes. They have fifteen brand new courses that are going to start soon.

Your genealogy New Year’s Resolution could be to finally sign up for a genealogy class or two in the coming year. I think that, by nature, genealogists enjoy learning about new things as much as they like the process involved with searching for information about an ancestor. It seems only natural for this group of people to want to take a class that can teach them more about their favorite hobby.

Some classes, like the ones offered online at FamilySearch are resources that can be viewed for free. They are great resources for genealogists who don’t happen to have available money to spend on furthering their genealogical studies at this moment.

Family Tree Magazine is a genealogy magazine that has tons of resources for genealogists. They even have a podcast, that is produced monthly. Part of their website consists of what is called “Family Tree University”.

In short, it is an online education program designed to help genealogists continue their education about genealogy. It offers online courses, independent study courses, and webinars. As far as I can tell, this is not an accredited university, and does not offer courses that can translate into college credit.

If you want to take one of their courses, you must sign up, and pay the fee for the class. They have fifteen new courses that will begin in January of 2012. You can register for these classes anytime from now, through January 13, 2012. Some courses are going to start in February or March of 2012.

“Coming to America” is described as a one week power course, that costs $59.99 to enroll in. This online class will begin on January 2, 2012, and end on January 8, 2012. If that one is too soon for you, then you can enroll in the one that will start on January 9, 2012, and will end on January 15, 2012.

“Computer Boot Camp for Genealogists” is an online course that costs $99.99 to enroll in. It will begin on January 9, 2012, and continue through February 5, 2012. To take this class, you must have a computer and an internet connection.

“Creating a Family History Book” is an online course that also costs $99.99 to enroll in. This one will start on January 9, 2012, and will continue through February 5, 2012. This course will teach you how preserve your family history research in a way that is creative, easy to share, and fun to put together.

“Death Records 101” also begins on January 9, 2012, and will continue through February 5, 2012. This course costs $99.99 to enroll in. This class teaches you how to find death records, and what information they hold. These are just a few of the classes being offered at Family Tree University in January.
