JENNIFER HUDSON
How do you follow up an Oscar-winning performance that made you the talk of Hollywood? If you are Jennifer Hudson you hook up with Sarah Jessica Parker and sign on to appear in “Sex and the City: The Movie.”
The “Dreamgirls” stand out has just signed on to play the assistant to Parker’s designer clad, shoe-obsessed character Carrie Bradshaw. According to Variety, the 25-year-old singer-actress is currently in final negotiations with movie producers, but should be on set when filming gets underway in New York next week.
In addition to Parker and Hudson, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Chris Noth will also be appearing in the highly anticipated film.
When she isn’t on the streets of New York catering to “Carrie’s needs” Hudson will also be in the studio working on her debut album. You can also look for her in the upcoming crime drama “Winged Creatures” opposite Kate Beckinsale and Forest Whitaker.
JESSICA SIMPSON
I’m sure millions of pubescent males would agree that Jessica Simpson looks great in a cowboy hat. But, I wonder how many of them would say she sounds great as a country crooner.
We all may be finding out sooner than later.
According to her father Joe Simpson, Jessica is “talking about doing a country record and going back to her roots.” (She is from Texas after all.)
“She’s a singer from top to bottom,” Joe Simpson told reporters recently. “And everything in the music business, especially pop music, has moved away from singers. And I think country is the only pure, storytelling kind of genre left.”
The 27-year-old singer turned actress recently wrapped up filming “Major Movie Star” and is reportedly headed back to the recording studio. Her last album, 2006’s “Public Affair,” peaked in the Top 20, but quickly fell off the charts.
There’s been no official word from Jessica regarding her proposed foray into the country music world. But, frankly, I would be more concerned about how well she would be received by loyal country fans than whether her current pop fans (see: all those pubescent males) would support her new tunes.
