New Home Starter Kit

Are you moving or know someone who is? Why not create a new home starter kit? It is easy, it is fun, and it could make a real difference in turning a new house into a home.

The idea of a new home starter kit isn’t new, but I am surprised by how many people don’t think of it. I remember our move and how stressful it was. Having a new home starter kit would have made things a lot easier.

Don’t worry if you are the one who is moving. You can put one together yourself, although obviously it is a little nicer if someone does it for you.

First, determine a container to hold your new home starter kit. It might be a pretty basket, a larger cleaning bucket, a tricked out (decorated) moving box or anything that will be able to contain your kit.
Next, determine the most important things to add to the kit. Here are some suggestions.

Because the family will be out of sorts and not really settled in, having some easy meals for the first few days is essential. The best way to do this, I think, is to include menus and gift cards to local pizza places, sandwiches places, breakfast places and restaurants. This way, the family can explore a little bit of the area and still be able to eat. For my home, we didn’t have water or electricity at first, so eating out was necessary.

For the home itself, you’ll want to add in some all purpose cleaning supplies. Keep it simple, such as a spray bottle of an all-purpose cleaner, some window cleaner and some paper towels. This way, everything will be at hand, and the family can clean everything as they unpack.

Those are just a few ideas to get you started creating a new home starter kit. You may have other things you would like to include, such as pampering products and snacks.
