Everyone has been buzzing about possible new iMacs that may be coming soon.
Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple said that the new iMacs “will be off the charts.” So what does that mean? Well, there has been some speculation about possible features.
One new feature that is rumored to be part of the new iMacs is a multi-touch mouse that is highly intuitive and interactive. The mouse would differ from a regular computer touch pad in that it would be much more like the touch screen on the iPhone.
With a multi-touch mouse, you may be able to squeeze the mouse or use gestures to command your computer. There may be virtual controls, such as sliders, knobs, handles, doors, etc. In addition some rumors promote the idea that the mouse could light up in red when you have mail.
A multi-touch interactive mouse of this sort would truly put the iMac far beyond what is currently being offered anywhere else.
Other features currently being speculated about for the new iMacs include a brushed aluminum enclosure, and an overall maximum computer width of only two inches. it should be based on the new Intel Santa Rosa platform that offers speeds up to 2.4 GHz.
In addition, Apple has reportedly designed a new keyboard for its new iMacs. The keyboard should be “super slim” with a low profile that is similar to the keyboard on the Macbook, released last year.
Apple plans to unveil its new iMacs sometime between next week and mid-August. We do know that Apple will release 20-inch and 24-inch models only. The 17-inch models will be discontinued overall, supposedly because the efficiency costs of producing the smaller screened models.
The last time there was a major update to the Apple iMacs was back in September 2006.
