Rumor has it that the next generation of Apple iPods, the sixth, will be hitting Apple stores as soon as the beginning of August.
Many people are speculating about what new features will be available on the new iPods. For example, will they feature a touch screen interface? New operating system? New colors?
Well the best guesses are as follows.
The new iPods will probably not feature a touch-screen interface. I think that would take too much away from the glory and newness of the Apple iPhones. I think that the touch screen will eventually come to the iPod, but probably not until next year. Of course, I am perfectly willing to appear with egg, or iPods on my face, if I’m wrong.
As for a scaled down version of the Mac OSX appearing on the iPod anytime soon, I say no again, for all of the reasons above. But there probably will be an update or improvement to the iPod’s regular operating system. Rumor has it that an upgrade was supposed to appear with the 5GB iPod, but since that didn’t happen, perhaps it will appear now with this new sixth generation iPod.
More rumors talk about the design and look of the device. The iPod itself is rumored to be reduced in height (while still maintaining its screen size and resolution), and that seems very likely. Also, since the Apple nano and Apple shuffle appeared in additional colors (other than black and white), it is pretty likely that the new iPods will do the same. And, the current iPods black may lose some of its gloss and appear more like the black on the latest Macbook.
What do you think? Have you purchased an iPod? Will you upgrade to the next generation or hold out until next year?
