Welcome to New JerseyThe state of New Jersey has the nickname “The Garden State”. Are you looking for more information about ancestors who once lived in New Jersey. If so, then there are plenty of New Jersey genealogy resources that can help genealogists to do more research on ancestors from “The Garden State”.

Cyndi’s List is one of the most comprehensive lists of links to genealogy resources online. If it exists on the internet, Cyndi’s List probably has a link to it. They have a page called “United States – New Jersey”. Start by selecting a category from the index. Categories include: “Birth, Death, Marriage”, “Census”, “Counties”, “Military”, “Newspapers”, and many more!

Internment.net has cemetery records online. Start by putting the first and last name of your ancestor into the search engine at the top of their website. Or, you can start by selecting any of the counties in New Jersey. Each county has links that will bring you to more information about records from cemeteries that are located within that county.

Ancestry.com has a page that is filled with links to all of their New Jersey collections of records. To access the majority of these records, you will need to have an Ancestry.com membership. Sometimes, there will be a few collections that are offered for free. Return to their page often. Ancestry.com does a great job of making it clear when a collection has been added, updated, or is currently accessible for free.

NJgen.com has a page that is designed to make genealogy resources in New Jersey easier to understand and available to all. There are several different topics you can explore by clicking on the links on their sidebar. You can find links that pertain to specific counties, maps and history of the state, and advice about the many search options that they can provide.

GeneaLinks has a search engine at the top of their website. Put your ancestor’s first name and surname into it. Choose which type of records you want to search through: vital, birth, death, marriage, divorce, or “Genealogy”. GeneaLinks has helpful information for genealogists who are beginners at New Jersey genealogy. Did you know that the privacy restrictions in the state ran out in 1901? This means all old records are open to the public.

FamilySearch has a Facebook page for FamilySearch New Jersey Genealogy. This is a good place to go if you want to connect with other genealogists who are also working on New Jersey genealogy research right now. You can also find links to helpful FamilySearch collections.
