New Product: Musical Toothbrush Aims To Get Kids To Brush Longer

What will they think of next? Toy giant Hasbro has created a musical toothbrush, available in 18 varieties, each playing a different two minute clip of a popular song. Two minutes is the amount of time dentists recommend we should brush. Tooth Tunes cost $10 and play a variety of new and old tunes including:

Let’s Get It Started by the Black Eyed Peas
Walk Away by Kelly Clarkson
Shake A Tail Feather by the Cheetah Girls
We Will Rock You by Queen
Fun, Fun, Fun by the Beach Boys
Survivor by Destiny’s Child
Wake Up by Hilary Duff

If you live in New York you can pick up one starting today at local retailers, including CVS, Wal-mart and Toys “R” Us. You can also order online at www.toothtunes.com. The company plans to make Tooth Tunes available in retail outlets nationwide soon.

How do they work, you ask? When users push a button on the Tooth Tune brush, sound vibrations stream from the bristles through their teeth and they hear the music in their heads. When they stop brushing, the music stops playing in their head so they will have to brush for the complete two minutes in order to hear the complete clip.

Encouraging kids to brush for the required two minutes is a great idea but the price is a bit, well, pricey. When you consider that most dentists recommend you change your toothbrush at least every four to six months I’d rather buy cheaper brushes and sing the two minutes while Tyler brushes. Okay, I’m sure he would rather I didn’t sing but the point is I’m not sure I want to plunk down $10 for a singing toothbrush when I can a get pack of 4 from the Dollar Tree that works just as well. But I’ll leave it up to you guys to decide for yourself. If anyone buys one, let me know how they work.
