If you have picture frames available around your house or at the local thrift store, you have a valuable resource and can do many things with them. Read on to find out how you can transform these frames into useful and beautiful items for your home.
Why reuse picture frames?
Picture frames are very useful and plentiful to the thrift shopper or curb shopper. People buy too many of them for photos and then discard them. The same is true for framed artwork. When people get tired of their inexpensive art, they get rid of it, frame and all. Some folks even discard frames that have broken hooks, but replacing those hooks is an easy and frugal feat.
Fixing a hook
If you come across a frame with a broken hook, you can replace it without buying a thing. Simply use a soda can tab and hot glue or super glue it to the back of the frame. They work well and strong, and you can reuse that frame.
Create an old world look
On Wednesday we stopped by my very creatively frugal friend’s house. She showed me a large and ornate picture frame that she had found at the curb. She plans on mounting the frame on her ceiling to frame in her living room light fixture. Now there is a creative idea!
Install a “window”
For another cute idea, grab a few small frames that are all the same size. Insert mirrors into the frames and hang them touching each other to create a grid. frame the outside of your “window” using a larger frame or just paint the frame and sill of your window on your wall. If you don’t want to use mirrors, you can easily paint your window scene on your wall before you hang the empty frames.
