New Website Helps with Summertime Injuries

While summertime may mean warm days and lots of summer fun for you and your kids, hospitals have another name for summer: Trauma Season. Summertime is the prime time for emergency room visits. According to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals, there is an estimated three million kids under the age of 15 that enter the emergency room in the summer months for unintentional injuries.

All of this increased activity in emergency rooms is due to the increased levels of activity in the summertime by kids. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia released a statement saying that during the summer, “Among the most common injuries are motor vehicle crashes, water-related accidents, pedestrian accidents, falls, dog bites and bicycle, skateboard and rollerblade incidents.”

To address the issue and help parents get the best care for their kids, a team of experts from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia put together a new website called After The Injury http://www.AfterTheInjury.org .

This expert developers of the content on this website include behavioral researchers, trauma surgeons and trauma nurses, such as Flaura Koplin Winston, MD, PhD, director of the Center for Injury Research and Prevention. The information is based on almost ten years of research and experience.

At http://www.AfterTheInjury.org, parents will find content that helps them learn about the proper treatment and care for their children’s injuries. The website contains videos, tip sheets and a way to create a personal care plan for your child. The website also addresses the emotional affects of injury for both kids and parents. This can be an important part of the after care and recovery. Parents can also find resources on where to get additional help if needed.

One more thing to note about this new website is that it is absolutely free to all parents to use.
