There’s nothing like ushering in a new year amidst the cobalt-blue waters of the Pacific. And if you are lucky enough to welcome 2008 along the sun-kissed shores of the Hawaiian Islands you’ll have another reason to celebrate—various attractions and resorts around the state are offering money-saving package deals.
OAHU
If you are looking for an unforgettable place to bid adieu to 2007 consider booking a seat on the Star of Honolulu, which sets sail New Year’s Eve for a celebration at sea. The New Year’s Eve cruise provides spectacular views of the fireworks at Aloha Tower Marketplace and along the Waikiki coastline, minus the crowds and the hassles of securing a spot on land.
The cruise departs from Aloha Tower Marketplace, Pier 8, at 10:30 p.m. and returns at 12:30 a.m. The package includes dinner, live music and dancing, plus a champagne toast at midnight and party favors. The cost is $145 per person.
MAUI
Destination Resorts Hawaii is ringing in 2008 with a commitment to preserve the environment. And they are doing so by offering a unique Maui travel package that includes a $250 carbon credit. Carbon credits certify the removal of greenhouse gas from the air or the prevention of future greenhouse gas emissions.
Ask for the Honua Makuahine (Mother Earth) vacation package, which features five nights’ lodging, a complimentary rental car, free parking and a $250 carbon credit per booking, which offsets an average of 3.5 round-trip flights from Los Angeles to Hawaii.
Reservations are being taken now, however, the package is only valid April 1 through June 15. Package rates start at $1,080 based on lodging in a one-bedroom condominium. Prices vary depending on the unit size-—you can choose up to a three-bedroom vacation rental.
BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII
The Sheraton Keauhou Resort is offering New Year’s revelers a “Free Wheelin’ Room & Car Package,” which includes a rental car and lodging starting at $229 per night. You can choose to cruise the island in a Jeep Wrangler, a convertible or even a Lincoln Navigator.
The $229 rate includes a compact car and mountain view room. Otherwise you can spend $360 and get a convertible and an oceanfront room. The rate varies depending on the type of car and room selection.
